Lettered below the image with quotation from the Bible, 'Vilior fiam plus quam factus sum, et humilis ero inocculis meis 2 Regum - Cap.6. After one of the pendentives of the Bandini Chapel in San Silvestro al Quirinale in Rome. The painting is Spear 101.i Jacob Frey (b.1757) Swiss engraver and publisher. Born Lucerne, moved to Rome in 1702, where he was trained by A. Westerhout. Began by publishing his own plates and later began publishing works of others. Seems to have been the preferred engraver of Maratta.His stock of plates descended to his son Filippo, who sold then to the Calcografia Camera (now in the Rome Calcografia). Condition: small repair to tear to right side |
