Friedrich Salathé (1793-1858) was a Swiss painter and printmaker. He was born near Basle where he worked for a print dealer, travelled through Italy between 1821-1823 and moved permanently to Paris afterwards. He specialised in landscapes and topographical works.

Carlo Bossoli (1815-1884) was a painter, draughtsman and printmaker from Italy. He was born in Lugano, but his family moved to Odessa in the Ukraine during the 1820's where he grew up and eventually apprenticed as a topographical artist. He visited Italy in 1839 and permanently settled there from 1844 onwards, first in Milan and later Turin. He travelled throughout Europe, producing many landscape and topographical drawings which would later be published as lithographs.
