Jacques Gerard Milbert (1766 - 1840) was a French naturalist who explored the United States from 1815 -1824 studying the flora of the eastern and southern areas of the country. Milbert sent specimens of animals he discovered in North America to the Paris museum of natural history. He discovered many new plants, and corrected the erroneous ideas that were current in Europe about the flora of the United States.
