Notes The original watercolour drawing is in the Bodleian Library. Carter's Passage (or Carter's Yard) is the alley running south from the High Street, near Carfax, beside 130 High Street. The latter was a fishmonger's shop named Carter's for most of the nineteenth century (Oxford Chronicle, 10 Sept. 1898). The building on the right is Kemp Hall, built c. 1637 by William Boswell.
