Notes An etching on India laid paper of a view outside Rome with a man and a woman in the foreground, remains of masonry to the left and a cliff in the background Lettered with 'The Original in the Possession of Lady Ford' above the title. This print comes from a series of 40 etchings entitled, 'Etchings, from the Works of Richard Wilson.'

Captain Thomas Hastings (1778 - 1854) was an amateur painter, draughtsman, watercolour artist ,and etcher. He was born Thomas Barnett, but changed his surname to Hastings in 1812. He was an officer in the British Army from 1795-1811 and made Captain from 1799. Hastings went on to work as a Customs Officer in Liverpool from 1819. Hastings exhibited his work at the Royal Academy of Arts, Society of Painters in Watercolours, British Institution, Liverpool Academy, and Hibernian Academy. He became an Associate of the Liverpool Academy and was the founder of the Carisbrooke Archers Society in 1829.

Richard Wilson RA (1 August 1714 – 15 May 1782) was one of the pioneers of British landscape painting. He worked in Italy and Britain He painted in a classical style influenced by the works of Claude Lorraine and his time in Italy.
