Notes A bust portrait of Holy Roman Emperor Matthias, turned slightly to the right, wearing an embroidered doublet under a fur-lined overcoat, a lace collar, a necklace of the Order of the Golden Fleece, and a laurel wreath crown.

Matthias, Holy Roman Emperor (1557-1619), was the son of Emperor Maximilian II. He backed a Catholic revival in the Hasburg regions, the consequential religious unrest of which would eventually contribute to the outbreak of Thirty Years' War (1618-1648).

Condition: Strong impression. Slight overall time toning. Trimmed to margins and laid to album page.
