Artist seal: Jo Artist signature: Jo e. Publisher: Kato Junji A kacho-e scene showing a lantern plant at night. The pure black background contrasts the vibrant tones of the fruit and leaves, some of which appear to have been eaten by an insect. Jo (Hashimoto Yuzuru) was a Japanese woodblock artist, active in 1920-1930's, who specialised in kacho-e or depictions of flowers and birds. Condition: Printed highlighted with mica to lower sheet and areas of plant. Spots of foxing to sheet. |
