Notes A small but interesting French map of Poland, as well as adjoining parts of Germany, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Slovakia, and Czechia, engraved by Faure for the 'Geographie Universelle Exposee dans les Differentes metodes' by P. Buffier de la 'Compagnie de Jesus.' Countries, regions, and coastlines are outlined in hand colour, and the title is enclosed in a boxed cartouche.

Claude Buffier (25th May 1661 – 17th May 1737) was a theologian, geographer, and Jesuit brother from Warsaw, Poland, who worked in Paris. Aside from his theological works, Buffier authored a number of geographic texts, among them the 'Géographie Universal,' which was posthumously published in Paris in 1749 which ran to several editions.

Condition: Vertical folds as issued. Trimmed to border of map along left edge as issued, now reinstated. Blank on verso.
