Sir John Isaac Thornycroft (1843 - 1928) was a British shipwright and founder of the Thornycroft Shipbuilding Company. The manufacture of Destroyer class warships had become increasingly important due to the outbreak of the Russo-Japanese War, prompting Thornycroft to move his operations to larger premises in Southampton in late 1904.
