Notes A Portrait of Philippa of Lancaster (1359-1415), Queen of Portugal and Princess of England, daughter of John of Gaunt and wife of John I, the marriage being the final step in the formation of the Anglo-Portugese Alliance which was to be the longest lasting of England's diplomatic relationships. She was also the mother of the 'Ínclita Geração' or Illustrious generation of the house of Aviz, which included Henry the Navigator, John, Duke of Coimbra and Isabella of Burgundy.
