Ward, Lock, & Co. were a British publishing house, founded by Ebenezer Ward and George Lock in 1854, originally operating from premises on Fleet St before relocating to Warwick House on Salisbury Square in 1878, where the company remained until the near destruction of the building by bombing during the Second World War. The company's portfolio was diverse and prolific, ranging from household almanacks, travel guides, and dictionaries to reprints of classics, detective stories and romance novels, and school texts. The company was eventually divided and acquired by Cassell Publishing in 1989.
