A small but interesting French map of the ancient Greek world, with borders and titles roughly describing the classical period, engraved by Faure for the 'Geographie Universelle Exposee dans les Differentes metodes' by P. Buffier de la 'Compagnie de Jesus.' Borders and coastlines are outlined in hand colour, and the title is enclosed in a curtain cartouche.
Claude Buffier (25th May 1661 – 17th May 1737) was a theologian, geographer, and Jesuit brother from Warsaw, Poland, who worked in Paris. Aside from his theological works, Buffier authored a number of geographic texts, among them the 'Géographie Universal,' which was posthumously published in Paris in 1749 which ran to several editions.
