Signed within plate. From Old English Sporting Pictures (1901). Following the enormous popularity of his Fallowfield Hunt series (1899) and Bluemarket Races series (1901), Aldin produced Old English Sporting Pictures (1901). Similar in style to William Nicholson's An Almanac of Twelve Sports (1898), the twelve prints featured scenes of cricket, racing, golf, curling, hunting, fishing, bowls, coursing, hawking, skating, shooting and coaching. Condition: Overall time toning, light foxing to margins. |
