Notes Wit and satirical poet, encouraged Pope, member of the Kit-Kat Club. MP for Worcestershire in 1698, and Richmond, Wiltshire in 1705. Published 'A Dialogue Concerning Women, being a Defence of the Sex' (1691), and 'Letters and Poems, Amorous and Gallant' (1692, reprinted in Dryden's Miscellany, 1714). Most of his work was never published, but appeared in miscellanies after his death.
