Wit and satirical poet, encouraged Pope, member of the Kit-Kat Club. MP for Worcestershire in 1698, and Richmond, Wiltshire in 1705. Published 'A Dialogue Concerning Women, being a Defence of the Sex' (1691), and 'Letters and Poems, Amorous and Gallant' (1692, reprinted in Dryden's Miscellany, 1714).
