A rare etched view of the quad of St. Edmund Hall .

Mabel Oliver was born in Cambridgeshire in (1868- 1956) and trained at the Slade School London in (1888-1890). She was an accomplished painter as well as a printmaker producing etchings known for her rural scenes and the colleges of Oxford and Cambridge.

Oliver signed her etchings M. Oliver Rae this was believed to conceal her identity as a woman which may have reduced her dealings with agents whom she sold her etchings through particularly those images being sold within the two university towns Oxford and Cambridge.
