Notes A map of New York and surrounds, printed one year after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War and showing the locations of key events from the conflict, from the 1776 edition of The Gentleman's Magazine: and Historical Chronicle. The borders of New Jersey are outlined in pink, while New York and Long Island are shown in yellow. Principal settlements and locations are picked out in red. The location of British and 'Rebel' camps are listed, as is the landing site of General Howe, and the locations of battles and skirmishes on the 27th August and 25th October.
