Notes Cary, John (1755-1835) English cartographer, engraver, globe maker and publisher. Worked with his brother George. Apprenticed to his William Palmer 1770; surveyor of roads to the general post office , 1794. Best known for his english county atlases. Amongst others - Cary's New and Correct English Atlas 1787-1789; engraved the plates for Robert Gough's edition of Camden's Britannia, 1789, 1806
