Notes Princess Caroline Elizabeth (1713-1757) was a member of the British royal family, the fourth child and third daughter of George II. She was born at Hanover, Germany, and moved to Britain with her sisters in 1714 when her grandfather succeeded to the throne as George I. After the death of Queen Caroline in 1737 she took some responsibility for the upbringing of her younger sisters Mary and Louisa. Princess Caroline remained unmarried. Her health deteriorated in the 1750s and she died at the age of forty-four.

John Faber the Younger (c.1695-1756) the son of John Faber, also an engraver, was born in Amsterdam. His family settled in England and he learned drawing and mezzotint engraving from his father before enrolling at the academy in St Martin's Lane founded by Louis Cheron and John Vanderbank. A prolific portraitist, Faber became a well-respected engraver of portraits. Sir Godfrey Kneller and Peter Lely had him make prints after their works. He is best remembered for his forty-seven plates of members of the Kit-Kat Club after Kneller and a series of twelve portraits entitled Beauties of Hampton Court.

Hans Hysing (1678-1752 or 1753) was a Swedish painter, active in England. He was apprenticed in Sweden to a goldsmith, before studying portrait painting under David von Krafft. In 1700 he joined his compatriot Michael Dahl in London and lived with him for some years as pupil and studio assistant. By 1715, he was working independently. Unlike Dahl, whose chief patrons were Tories, Hysing was favoured by both the Hanoverian royal family and the Whig ascendancy. He painted full-length portraits of Princess Anne, Princess Amelia and Princess Caroline, as well as portraits of Sir Robert Walpole and Richard Onslow, Speaker of the House of Commons.
