Alfred Rethel (1816 - 1859) was a designer of woodcuts and etchings. Born in Diepenbend, he begun his studies in Aachen with Bastinés. He went on to train in Düsseldorf under Schadow (1829-36) and Frankfurt on the Main. From 1844-5, and again in 1852-3, he travelled and worked in Italy. It is believed he went insane in 1853.

Georg Wigand (1818 - 1858) was a famous bookseller and publisher in Liepzig.

Robert Reinick (22 February 1805 – 7 February 1852) was a German painter and poet, associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting.

Condition: Originally printed over three sheets, the images and accompanying text have been separated.(not photographed) Time toning, affecting some sheets more than others.
