The portrait was originally paired to a portrait of Charles II.

Half-length portrait of Catherine of Braganza, set within an oval, directed to the right, and looking forward. She wears a gown embellished with jewels, and a pearl necklace. Behind her to the right is her crown.

Catherine of Braganza (1662 - 1685) was the wife of Charles II, and reigned as Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland from 1662 to 1685. She was born into the House of Braganza, the most senior noble house of Portugal.
