An early nineteenth century French map of Italy, ornamented in full wash colour, from Henri Selves' Atlas Géographique. Géographie moderne actuelle. Pour l'usage des Collèges. Rome, Naples, Milan, and Turin are picked out in red, and neighbouring regions are outlined in hand colour. In the top right corner, an inset map of Rome provides details on the city's monuments, ancient and modern, surrounded by the city walls in red.
Henri Selves (fl.1820s) was a French geographer, and lithographic printer to the University of Paris.
