Notes An illustration to John Milton's Paradise Lost published by Cresset Press. Presumably a surplus impression. There were only six sets of Paradise Regain'd issued on vellum and ten of Paradise Lost by the Cresset Press.

This is the final and the finest book issued by the Cresset Press, which operated between 1927 and 1931 under the direction of Dennis M. Cohen and A. I. Myers. The text used in the edition for which they are done for comes from the second edition of Paradise Lost, printed in 1674, and the first edition of Paradise Regain'd, printed in 1671.

Demetrios Galanis (1882-1966) was a Greek illustrator, printmaker, and designer. He studied under Nikiforos Lytras at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Athens and later under Fernand Cormon at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Galanis earned a number of important commissions as illustrator for private press books in France and elsewhere during the 1920s and 30s.
