Signed in pencil Francis Seymour Haden (1818 - 1910) was an etcher, mezzotint engraver and surgeon (he practiced medicine until 1887). In 1847 he married Deborah (Dasha) Delano Whistler, sister of the artist. For the next twenty years, he enjoyed a close friendship with J A M Whistler whose etching style clearly influenced Haden's.
