Sanders of Oxford is pleased to present Light & Shadow: Oxford in Early Twentieth Century Prints. Presenting, for the first time, a collection of artists who’s careers converge on Oxford’s rich architectural highlights. Opposing literal depictions, the featured artists have approached the subjects of “town and gown” differently from previous visitors.
The exhibition reveals an alternative view of Oxford in prints with a clearly visible shift from printmaking styles of the time. Featuring previously un-exhibited linocutts by Bernard Cecil Gotch, etchings by the former Ruskin School of drawing and fine art master Sydney Carline, alongside the works of Ferdinad Giele, William Nicholsons and Muirhead Bone.
