Picturing India Exhibition

Picturing India: Prints, Maps and Photographs, 1690-1920

Friday 22nd September to Saturday 7th October 2006

This September, in association with Arnaud Delas, Sanders presents a veritable 'wonder house' of images of India, dating from the 1600s to just after the Great War.

From 17th century maps to Orientalist topographical views, from studio portraits of Viceroys and Maharajahs, to informal studies of street vendors, plantation workers and sadhus, the exhibition offers a wide historical survey of the British pictorial reaction to the subcontinent, from the rise of the East India Company to the height of the Raj.

Featured artists & photographers include Daniell and Shepherd & Bourne.
