Beneath the view there is a numbered key identifying 69 of the major buildings with a dedication to the Lord Bishop of Oxford. John Whessell was an English engraver working in London 1802-1823 and then in Oxford in the later 1820s.. He engraved after Serres, Stothard, Singleton, Sartorius and Gainsborough, among others. John Whessell also drew and engraved views of Oxford for Oxford Delineated published in 1831 by Whessell and Bartlett.
